AKA: Cockscomb, Woolflower, Feather Celosia

What’s in a name:  The generic name Celosia is derived from the Greek word “keleos” which translates to “burning”. This could refer to the flame like form of the feather celosia or the vibrant array of colours the celosia is commonly seen in.

Why we love it: No matter which variety you choose it’s unlikely you’ll find anything quite as unusual. The cockscomb variety could be compared to vibrant underwater coral while others like the Prince of Wales feather appear as a technicolour flame.

How to get the most out of them: Make sure you get the pick of the crop using these tips!

1. Buy brightly coloured bunches in full bloom.
2. Avoid bunches with yellowing leaves.
3. Take off as many leaves as possible and cut stems with sharp secateurs.
4. Add preservative to the water to promote strong flowers.
5. Replace water every one to two days.
